Choosing a hairdryer may be a hard job for many of us as
there are many different models and technology in the market. Having the right hair dryer can make a big difference: cutting time, minimal hair damage and make your hair look healthy. In this article, we are going to break down the main factors that you need to consider when looking for a hairdryer so you can be confident in your next purchase.
1. Power: choose around 1800 watts or higher
One of the key factors to look for in a good hairdryer is its wattage. Wattage refers to the strength of the hair dryer’s motor. In general, they usually range from 1200W to as high as 3000W for some professional models. For most hair types, a dryer around 1,800W should be sufficient. Low wattage models at 1200W are also available for travel-sized hair dryers.
When it comes to hairdryer power, the higher the wattage, the faster and hotter the blow dryer. This usually means that the higher wattage hairdryers will dry your hair more quickly than lower ones. Most professionals will recommend looking for a hairdryer that has at least 1800W.
2. Weight: choose a hairdryer with a comfortable weight for your hand to hold
If your hair is thick and long, you may have to hold the hairdryer for some time. Lightweight models are around 500g. The lightest model in the market is iQ Perfetto with 294g – it’s an average weight of a smartphone – but has an extremely powerful motor. And while the price isn’t budget-friendly, it is definitely worth the investment.
3. Choose hair-dryers with a cool shot button
This cool shot button provides instant cool air that seals the outer cuticle of the hair, locking the moisture in and keeping your hairstyle longer. Stylists recommend using the cool shot button when the hair is 90% dry.
4. Go for a hairdryer with both high and low airflow options
The high airflow feature helps dry hair quickly, and the low airflow feature (with a cool shot button) lets you set and hold your hairstyle.
High airflow heat may be used on really thick or coarse hair to remove excessive moisture, if your hair is really healthy, you can also use higher airflow to help control frizz. However, if your hair is thin, damaged, or heavily coloured, you should stick to a lower heat setting.
5. Technology: Ionic, Ceramic or Nano Titanium
Aside from power, there are 3 technologies that can help you achieve the look that you desire: iconic, ceramic, and nano titanium.
Ionic technology:
The ionic technology works in the way that delivers negative ions to your hair through the air it blasts out. These negative ions counteract with the positive irons in the water on damp hair and break down the water cluster into micro water molecules. Through this process, the tiny water molecules can penetrate hair deeper and give it a smooth &
shiny look.

Ceramic technology
With the ceramic technology, the heat is distributed evenly thanks to the ceramic coating inside the hairdryer. The results? Hair is drying faster and less damage.
If you'd like to benefit both technologies, then a combination dryer might be just what you're looking for. Parlux have a wide range for you to choose from, the combined features of the ceramic effect with the negative ion technology permit to radiate heat directly inside the hair without drying the external structure.

Nano titanium technology
Titanium is a metal that is resistant to corrosion and high heat. Compared to a pure ceramic hairdryer, a titanium one is 40% lighter.
A nano titanium hair dryer delivers negative ions to compact frizz, optimal heat for faster drying and less damage. With that in mind, it is better for thick hair which requires more heat for styling.

Extra tips:
If you have thin or curly hair you should consider diffuser attachments. Diffusers with short fingers help to prevent frizz for curly hair.
Diffusers with long fingers are designed to add volume to hair.
To avoid damaging your hair through blow drying, you should always use a thermal protectant spray. These can be used to set your style, stop frizz and overall stop the heat from drying out the cuticles.
